Quote(s) of the Day: from Bucky Fuller April 30, 2008

Richard Buckminster 'Bucky' Fuller (1895–1983)

*

Now there is one outstandingly important fact
regarding Spaceship Earth,

and that is that
no instruction book
came with it.

*

Something hit me very hard once, thinking about what one little man could do.

Don't fight forces, use them. The Things
to do are:

the things
that need doing,
that you see need
to be done,

and that no one else
seems to see
need to be done.

Unity is plural and, at minimum, is two.

'Reality' should always be in quotes. You
never
change
things
by
fighting
the
existing
reality.

To
change
something,
build
a
new
model
that
makes
the
existing
model
obsolete.

~ Richard Buckminster ‘Bucky’ Fuller (1895–1983)

Odeo player UPDATE ***UPDATED*** April 7, 2008

Posted by ~V~ in : Uncategorized, Sounds, Song of the Day, Web Resources , 1 comment so far

*UPDATE*: Odeo’s all good now. Check the comments for the latest info…
DON'T PANIC.

Don’t worry, people - the Odeo player isn’t gone forever.

It’s appearing and disappearing intermittently, and when it does appear,
sometimes the songs load and sometimes they don’t, but this kinda shizz
happens whenever they’re upgrading the system or whatever, idk…

i’m sure it will be back up 100% again soon, so in the meantime, please
enjoy the many other fine posts here @ opw that don’t utilize the player.

Maybe you could even leave a comment (hint).

i’ll delete this post when Odeo starts behaving again.

Why go on? March 25, 2008

Why do i even do this?

i get hundreds of visitors a day @ this site, and people are hotlinking to it
left and right, but no comments, no thanks, no nothin’.

Does anybody out there even like what i’m doing here, or is this site just a source of free music and photos for your LiveJournal or MySpace or Facebook profiles or message board posts to try and help you look cool to your friends?

i’m tired of always sending letters and never getting any back.

i think i’m gonna quit this exercise in futility and delete everything pretty soon, so download all you can while you still can, kids…

because i couldn’t have said it better myself.

Everything is connected...

Everything I think about the nature of this life
comes down to seven words:

Jane HirshfieldEverything is connected;
everything changes;
pay attention.

And really, you only need the last two — if you’re paying attention, you’ll find out whatever else
you need to know.

Dear Rockers: Paying Back Musicians November 28, 2007

Show some love to your favorite musician.

take your credit card to the liquor store

Many of us own music that we didn’t pay for.
We don’t feel guilty about shafting the
record company, but what about
the musicians themselves?

Here’s how it works:

1. Pick a musician
2. Write them a letter
3. Scan or photograph the letter and send it to us
4. Mail off the letter along with $5
5. Enjoy your new, guilt-free life

Danger Mouse - What More Can I Say? (6.3MB mp3)

from The Grey Album

Danger Mouse presents The Grey AlbumIn 2003, a little–known DJ by the name of Danger Mouse created a “mash–up” album that remixed the music of the BeatlesWhite Album and hiphop star Jay–Z’s Black Album to produce a new record called The Grey Album.

The swift and draconian legal reaction to the online dissemination of this technically illegal but culturally fascinating artifact gave rise to a “day of digital civil disobedience,” [February 24, 2004] organized by
music activism group Downhill Battle.

Grey Tuesday, as the day of action was known, marks a potentially new site for a blend of online political and cultural activism in the highly charged realm of intellectual property expansionism.

~ MPAA on the VCR (1982)

“When the manufacturers hand the public a license to record at home…not only will the songwriter tie a noose around his neck, not only will there be no more records to tape [but] the innocent public will be made an accessory to the destruction of four industries.”
