Quote of the Day: from Still Life With Woodpecker November 30, 2007
Posted by ~V~ in : Images, Philosophy, Quote of the Day , add a commentWho knows how to make love stay?
1. Tell love you are going to Junior’s Deli
on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn to pick up a
cheesecake, and if love stays, it can have half.
It will stay.2. Tell love you want a
memento of it and obtain
a lock of its hair.
Burn the hair in a dime-store
incense burner with yin/yang
symbols on three sides.
Face southwest. Talk fast
over the burning hair in a
convincingly exotic language.
Remove the ashes of the
burnt hair and use them to
paint a mustache on your face.
Find love.
Tell it you are someone new.
It will stay.3. Wake love up in the middle of the night.
Tell it the world is on fire.
Dash to the bedroom window and pee out of it.
Casually return to bed and assure love that
everything is going to be all right.
Fall asleep.
Love will be there in the morning.~ from Still Life With Woodpecker

Dear Rockers: Paying Back Musicians November 28, 2007
Posted by ~V~ in : Politics, Images, Philosophy, Sounds, Web Resources , add a commentShow some love to your favorite musician.
Many of us own music that we didn’t pay for.
We don’t feel guilty about shafting the
record company, but what about
the musicians themselves?
Here’s how it works:1. Pick a musician
2. Write them a letter
3. Scan or photograph the letter and send it to us
4. Mail off the letter along with $5
5. Enjoy your new, guilt-free life

YouTube Video of the Day: Little Nemo by Winsor McCay November 14, 2007
Posted by ~V~ in : Video, Sounds, YouTube Video of the Day, Comix , add a commentearly test animation from 1910
Although a comic strip, Little Nemo was far from a simple children’s fantasy; it was often dark, surreal, threatening, and even violent. The strip related the dreams of a little boy:
Nemo (meaning “nobody” in Latin), the hero. The last panel in each strip was always one of Nemo waking up, usually in or near his bed, and often being scolded (or comforted) by one of the grownups of the household after crying out in his sleep and waking them…

‘Nest Hair’ by Audrey Kawasaki | 23″ x 18″ | Oil on wood
I’m focused on what I can do
with the figure and expression,
with the lines and color.I enjoy the organic grains
and patterns on wood panel.
It’s very inviting to me.
It works as a good base and
background, and I use really
thin washes of oil, so the
grains show though.
I like to work and play
around with that.Although there is a story
behind my current girls,
it’s still very vague and up
in the air. I wish to develop
more lucid, detailed ideas
and plots and settings.
