I’m delighted to see each of you here tonight in spite of a storm warning. You reveal that you are determined to go on anyhow. Something is happening in Memphis, something is happening in our world.

Men, for years now, have been talking about war and peace. But now, no longer can they just talk about it. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world; it’s nonviolence or nonexistence.

. The hope of a secure and livable
. world lies with disciplined
. nonconformists who are dedicated
. to justice, peace and brotherhood.
.
. Peace is not merely a distant goal
. that we seek, but a means by which
. we arrive at that goal.
.

One has not only a legal, but
a moral responsibility to obey
just laws. Conversely, one has
a moral responsibility to disobey
unjust laws.

. Power properly understood
. is nothing but the ability
. to achieve purpose.
.
. It is the strength required
. to bring about social, political
. and economic change.

What is needed is a realization
that power without love is
reckless and abusive, and
love without power is
sentimental and anemic.

Power at its best is love
implementing the demands of
justice, and justice at its best
is power correcting everything
that stands against love.

Let us develop a kind of dangerous unselfishness.
